Suzuki Bandit :: Holeshot Power Package

After the first optical improvements, it it's time for some performance enhancements :).

To improve the Bandit's responsiveness without spending a whole lot of money, I ordered the Power Package from Holeshot.

The package contains:

The package works best with a less restrictive aftermarket exhaust. You don't gain much with this package and the stock exhaust.

Here's how to install it:

Timing advancer

Since the instructions that come with the package are pretty nice, I won't go too much into detail, but just try to give you a feel for how easy the installation really is.
The engine cover on the right side of the bike with the "Suzuki" label hides the timing advancer (first picture). Just remove the screws and carefully open the cover. If you don't break the cover gasket, you can reuse it. Otherwise you have a new one already :). Then just unscrew the old advacer and drop in the new one. Close the cover (with new gasket) and you're good. See the center of the second picture to see what the advacer looks like in place.

Shiming the carb needles

So much for the easy part of the procedure...
To get the shims onto the carb needles, you have to remove the carburators from the bike. Here is where a repair manual will be very helpfull! The process goes like so:
Remove the fuel tank, the throttle cables and the vacuum hoses off the carbs. Then you need to unscrew the carbs off the intake manifold and off of the airbox. Sounds complicated, but isn't. Get the manual! :)
Once the carbs are on the workbench, the Air/Fuel mix screws have to be drilled out and adjusted and the shims need to be placed. Go to maximum-suzuki.com for some helpful advice if you need more assistence.
Before you put everything back together, remove the ruber snorkel out of your airbox.
All done! Test ride!!
